JPEG Images
With the use of scanners, digital cameras and the Web, the JPEG image format has become the most widely used digital image format.
JPEG is an acronym for Joint Photographic Experts Group, the organization that developed the JPEG format.
Opening and viewing JPEG image does not harm the image in any way.
Each time a JPEG image is opened, edited, and saved it results JPEG image degradation.
Copying and renaming a JPEG will not cause any degradation it is recommended that before editing an image that you open the image then
do a save with a new file name.
Use the new file for your editing this will allow you to keep the original JPEG without degradation.
When editing saving the JPEG file will not cause degrading.
Degradation will occur each time the image is closed, re-opened, edited and saved again.
Editing your image in several sessions or using different programs use an image format that is not lossy (TIFF, BMP, PNG) before saving the final JPEG version.
